Protecting the environment | staff | Updated: 2016-02-12 12:17:35 | | | A 1,000 square foot brick pervious patio has been installed as an outdoor gathering space for a neighborhood marketplace at the corner of Pickwick Avenue and Cherry Street in Springfield. Replacing concrete paving that shed rainwater and pollutants into the street gutter, the patio was constructed with pea gravel between bricks instead of sand. It demonstrates how environmental stewardship can occur in an urban setting and have both conservation and economic benefits. Project partners Stacey Armstrong (left) of the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks, Ryan Owen of Owen Holdings, LLC of Springfield and Missouri Department of Conservation Community Conservation Planner Ronda Headland sit by a sign explaining the patio's benefits. | Go Back |
